"Before I knew I wanted another dog I was just cruising a waterfowl page on Facebook,
then I ran into a post by Melissa looking for wings for use in training an upcoming litter.
This piqued my interest. Like I said, I didn’t know I wanted another dog, but I inquired
about the upcoming litter just because, at the time, I wasn’t looking. She responded that
she had a litter due late January and would keep me in mind since I was only being
nosey at the time. I talked it over with my wife and against her better judgement and a
pretty hard “no” I reached out again and spoke for a black male anyway, and I only
wanted a black male. Melissa got a puppy count, and it was 10, I knew the odds were
up there on what I wanted. After staring at Dixie and Gator, time and time again, I talked
my wife into it and we took a chance on a first litter and said, “I’ll take him if he comes.” I
didn’t know what I was doing with a high caliber Stud and Dam, but I knew I wanted one
of theirs. Fast forward and wouldn’t you know, one lone, black, male arrived and I was
hooked. Melissa updated me as much as she could with raising a newborn litter. We got
my best friend at 8 weeks, and the time and effort put in as a newborn puppy shined
immediately. The amount of preparation she and her husband put into these puppies
was more than I could ever imagine. Hudson stole our hearts from the beginning and
does everyone else he meets too. Hudson is a once in a lifetime dog. His natural, raw
athleticism, intelligence, and desire is unmatched. He is just a go anywhere, do anything
dog. Can be lazy with the best of them and can outrun the rest. His on/off switch is
incredible. His work ethic shines the minute you flip that switch. His bird drive/prey is
over the top. He just does the things he needs to do. I was a first time “trainer”, and I
use that term loosely, as Hudson has probably taught me more than I taught him. He
just gets it and gets it easily. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with Dixie Creek Retrievers!"

She’s the perfect mix of sweetness and drive — always ready to snuggle, but even more excited when there’s a bumper to retrieve! Sammie absolutely loves dock diving and fastCAT, and watching her confidence and enthusiasm shine during sports is such a joy to see. She's also a diabetic alert service dog and mobility assisting service dog.
